Starting from their debut album ‘Main Hoon Tanha’ till just released ‘Beyond Kismat’, band ‘Josh’ comprising members Rup and Q has come a long way. Excited about their new release ‘Beyond Kismat’, Josh chats with TOIFrom ‘Main Hoon Tanha’ till ‘Beyond Kismat’, how satisfying was the journey as musicians? We love what we do. Everyday we work hard to rise one level higher than the previous, that journey has been very satisfying.
Just to get the opportunity to do what you really love makes the work more enjoyable. It took us a while for us to come up with ‘Beyond Kismat’, but it represents where we are musically, as well as in our real life. We are in a comfortable, peaceful pace at the moment.
What are you trying to convey through this album? There is no goal as such. We as a band wanted to give our fan something that we believe in, from what our songs are inspired by. Many songs from this album talk about going to the basic simple things in life. For example, ‘Pyaar Ho Gaya’ talks about falling in love and going after it. What we are trying to say here is ‘don’t wait, take charge, work hard to get what you want’, this is the concept of album ‘Beyond Kismat’.
Which song took maximum effort while recording?‘Pyaar Ho Gaya’ itself has tested us with our tech skills. We had to practice a lot to reach those high notes, so I think from vocal point of view this song was a challenge while recording.
What’s the highlight of Josh’s current album?First time ever we have tried to remake R.D.Burman song ‘Yeh Zameen Ga’ in our own way. It’s done in a very unique and soulful way; it’s not a dance mix. We have tried to give it a chilled out, easy listening ‘Josh’ touch. This can be one of the highlights of this album.
Do you find any change in music scenario in India - Film/Non-Film, during your frequent India visits? In India, non-film music is almost extinct because Bollywood is happening big time. Bollywood music is doing great but for non-film music, sadly there are no platforms available for pop artistes. In future, even we would like to do something in Bollywood music.
How will you describe ‘Beyond Kismat’ to your fans?‘Beyond Kismat’ represents Josh’s journey so far and whatever we are today!
