"illiterate idiot," Adnan Sami REACTS to former Pakistani official Fawad Chaudhry for questioning his Indian nationality

Singer Adnan Sami has strongly criticized Fawad Chaudhry, the former Information and Broadcasting Minister of Pakistan, for questioning his Indian nationality. This exchange occurred on X (formerly Twitter) after an Indian journalist reported on the Indian government's directive for Pakistani nationals to leave the country following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

Chaudhry's Query and Sami's Vehement Response

Responding to the news, Chaudhry posted a concise question: "What about Adnan Sami?" to which the singer swiftly retorted to labeling him an "illiterate idiot" along with an accompanying laughing face emoji. Adnan Sami was granted Indian citizenship in December 2015, having been born to Pakistani parents in England and been educated there.

The backdrop to this online spat is a tragic terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday, where 26 individuals were fatally shot. This incident has been described as the most devastating attack in the region since the Pulwama strike that occurred in 2019.

Singer's Past Experience with Online Bullying

In a 2017 interview with Hindustan Times, Adnan Sami had previously addressed the kind of "bullying" he faced from social media users based in Pakistan. He recounted receiving sarcastic comments questioning his faith upon becoming an Indian citizen, saying, with comments asking him to get his religion changed as well when he took upon the Indian citizenship.He firmly stated his right to choose his nationality and religion, highlighting the large Muslim population in India and asserting that Pakistan is not the sole authority on Islam.

Adnan Sami has a significant body of work in the Indian music industry, delivering numerous hit songs over the past few decades. Some of his popular tracks include "Lift Kara De," "Kabhi Toh Nazar Milao," "Sun Zara" from the film "Lucky: No Time For Love" (2005), and "Bhar Do Jholi Meri" from "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" (2015).

His second studio album, "Tera Chehra," was released in October 2002. He also contributed to numerous other hits like “Kabhi Nahi”, featuring Amitabh Bachchan and has also composed music for several films like "Lucky: No Time for Love," "Yeh Raaste Hain Pyar Ke," "Dhamaal," "1920," and many more.
