She swayed us with her first Tamil song Pesugiren... from Satham Podathey and continues to do so till date. And now, Neha Bhasin is all set to release her first solo album — Tabaah — which has been in the making for almost two years. “Tabaah means ‘destroy’ in Urdu,” begins Neha, who is currently in Malaysia to promote the album which will hit the stores next week.
Talking about the album, she says, “Unlike most Indian albums, this is a fusion album that is inspired from my own story — the good, the bad and the ugly of it.” And then she springs the real surprise – the album will have a Tamil song as well! “The song, a beat-driven hip-hop track, is called Apple Bottoms. There are two versions of it, in Hindi and Tamil,” she reveals. Kavi Varman, who has written quite a few songs for Devi Sri Prasad, has written the Tamil version.
She adds, “I’ll be releasing the Tamil version in Tamil Nadu, Malaysia and Singapore. Though I won’t be having a proper launch function in Chennai, there will be a club event in which I’ll perform tracks from the album.”
Delving into the reason behind the song, she quips, “Apple Bottoms means a perfect-shaped butt. I think I have reached that stage in my life where I’m completely comfortable with my body and I wanted to explore that — in a fun way. The song is a celebration of a woman’s body, her being and her beauty.”
Neha has also shot a glamorous video in Ukraine for the song. “I wanted it to be an out-and-out performance video and it will have an international look. I think the video perfectly captures the soul of the song and me as an artiste,” she says.
On her Kollywood projects, she confesses, “I haven’t sung anything of late in Tamil. My last song was for Harris Jayaraj in the Hindi version of Khaakha Khaakha. Honestly, I’ve been very busy producing Tabaah. Now that it’s over, I’m ready for playback singing.”
Coming back to her album, the other song that Neha’s kicked about is the title song, a pop/rock track that she says is “my version of what I feel about love.” “I think gone are those days when we used to live for the other person. We are the generation that wants to live — mostly for self,” she quips.
So, what’s her current relationship status? “Right now, I’m like a girl in a candy store. I can’t make up my mind; I like so many boys. I’m just having fun now and I don’t want to settle down with anyone,” she laughs.
