Harshdeep Kaur calls her toddler a lyrical miracle
Singer Harshdeep Kaur is proud of her son Hunar’s musical talent and in a conversation with us, she shares why she calls her two-year-old a lyrical miracle.
“Sometimes it is hard for me to believe how such a small child remembers so many songs, he knows around 50 songs! He hears a song once and even when I repeat it after two weeks, he can easily identify it. If I sing half a line, he completes it. He’s also extremely good with words, so I call him ‘the lyrical miracle’. When I deliberately sing a wrong word, he corrects me and says, ‘No, mamma, it’s not halwa, it’s jalwa'," says Harshdeep.
When asked if she has been training her son in music, she says, “I have always been singing to Hunar. Even on the day he was born, and I was feeding him for the first time, I was singing to him. And somehow, during all activities, every occasion, there was always music and songs – whether it was bathing time, sleep time or playtime. I guess that’s how his interest began. We keep introducing him to new music, play different kinds of music that I have grown up listening to as well as what my parents used to listen to. It is our conscious effort to make him listen to good music.”
The Katiya Karoon singer adds, “My playtime with him is also mostly musical. I play a tune on the piano, and he immediately recognizes the song I am playing. Sometimes I hum the tune and he identifies the songs. Hunar isn’t a regular toddler and is not interested in fancy toys, kids his age are attracted to. He loves musical instruments, and he already has many, including a manjira, dhol, a tiny harmonium, dholak, mouth organ, dafli, damroo and others. Hunar is a born music lover.”
