Sitar player and composer
Anoushka Shankar recently collaborated with her nine-time
Grammy
winner half-sister,
Norah Jones, and she cherishes this recent musical venture.
In an exclusive interview with the Bombay Times
Anoushka
says, “It’s always lovely working with Norah. She is an incredible vocalist and pianist; she is also wonderful on the guitar and even plays the fiddle! She is knowledgeable and curious, sensitive and expressive, with an incredible vocal tone and delivery.”

The doting sister, a Grammy-nominated, well-known musician herself, and daughter of the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar, Anoushka, also talks about working with Norah, on the song, Opening Flowering, Drinking. She tells us, “We both have had lots of experience working with diverse artistes, so when we collaborate we bring an open-mindedness and ego-free attitude to the table. We also love each other as people and as artistes, so there’s a fundamental desire to help each other shine on whatever we are working on.”
Anoushka loves performing live on stage just like most musicians globally. She has been performing for over a quarter-century, having taken her first steps on stage when she was barely a teenager. Since then, performing on stage in front of a live audience means the world to her, so it's not surprising when she says she misses the live audience in the ongoing pandemic.
“I do miss performing. I had the chance to play a big show last month for
Love Letters PS at
Royal Festival Hall in London. A part of me came alive again. It's an electric, immediate connection with music, musicians and the audience. I miss the deep, true presence that performing brings along with it,” she signs off.
