Congratulations for becoming the first Indian to write lyrics for an international band
Thanks a lot. I have teamed up with rock icon David Kushner of Velvet Revolver and will be singing and writing the lyrics of a rock track alongside David, who is composing it.
1x1 polls
This number will be aired globally. It is a dream comes true for me as a singer, songwriter and musician and a rock-n-roll loyalist.
How did it happen?
I have been writing English lyrics from my school days in Chennai and I was always into western music. My hero and role model has always been the legendary singer, songwriter and musician Bob Dylan. To be honest, I wanted to be a musical all-rounder like my role model. Actually, a friend in LA introduced me to David Kushner, who was looking for a female singer and songwriter.
You seem to be overjoyed and very happy about it...

Why not? I’m over the moon, as now people will stop comparing me with my dad.
Your career is booming now...
I can’t ask for anything better. “Luck” has truly changed my life. I now have “Anagananga Oka Dheerudu”, with an English subtitle, then there is “Once upon a Warrior”, which is being directed by Prakash, who is the son of the legendary Telugu director K Raghavendra Rao. Siddarth plays the hero in this flick. It is a fantasy film where I play a spirited character. Apart from this, there’s Madhur Bhandarkar “Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji”, a romantic comedy with an ensemble cast. I’m paired opposite Emraan Hashmi in the film. Madhur is one of my favourite directors and I’ve loved all his films, and this is what made me take up “Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji”. Finally, there’s the AR Murgadoss-directed “7am Arivu” with Suriya in the lead.
Tell us about your “7am Arivu” role and experience...
It is turning out to be one of the most amazing experiences in my career. I was blown away hearing Murgadoss’ script . He is a director who knows exactly what he wants. I’m playing a very modern yet simple girl who the audiences can relate to. Suriya is a wonderful co-star and makes it a point to make me comfortable.
Aren’t you singing in the film?
I have to draw the line. I am only acting in this film. To be honest, I have signed “7am Arivu” to play the heroine’s role and I don’t mind if somebody else sings for my character in the film. Anyway, it’s too early to say anything as we have not shot any songs so far.
Have you watched “Endhiran”?
I’m yet to catch up with Rajini uncle’s “Endhiran” but I’m hearing fab reports. I will definitely be watching it shortly and I’m also eagerly looking forward to dad’s “Manmadhan Ambu”.
