In the latest drug bust in the city, Yogesh Patwardhan, one of the most prominent DJs in the city, popularly known as DJ Yogi, was nabbed by the city police with 60 grams of marijuana in his possessionM Stephen Raveendra, DCP, Crime, West Zone, says, “Yogi was arrested on Tuesday in possession of marijuana. He’s a popular choice for playing music at private parties and is close to the management of a top bar and grill in Jubilee Hills. He also played at other nightclubs and star hotels. He is in police custody and will be interrogated soon.” While the accused is yet to be interrogated, those who are known to be close to him in the social circles are on tenterhooks. It is no secret that the DJ was popular among T-town celebs and the elite party crowd. Industry buzz has it that some of Tollywood’s biggest A-listers, prominent businessmen and socialites are worried that their association with him in the past could land them in trouble. “As news of Yogi’s arrest spread like wildfire on Wednesday, the rich and famous have been rather paranoid, fearing that further probe could unearth more details,” says a party regular, on condition of anonymity. This is not the first time the drug-DJ nexus has come to the forefront in Hyderabad.
In the recent past, there have been cases of DJs being arrested in similar cases. P Bhanu Chander aka DJ Nash who was arrested in February 2011 revealed names of his clients during investigation. DJ Vikram Malhotra aka Vicky was also nabbed by cops. Further investigations based on revelations by busted DJs landed a lot of actors, filmmakers, politicos’ children, businessmen, socialites and doctors in the soup.Following Yogi’s arrest, a lot of his friends and fellow DJs are a worried lot. A friend of the DJ, on condition of anonymity, informs, “He is very talented, but I guess he went off-track. He has good connections with the rich and mighty of Tollywood. But it is sad that his arrest will only worsen the stigma attached to DJs — that DJs do and sell drugs. From what I’ve heard, some members of Tollywood and the city’s party regulars, are panic-stricken and hope they won’t get into trouble.
