Delhi's charming: Sunidhi

One of the most sought after singers today, Delhi girl Sunidhi Chauhan says she misses Dilli ka apnapan.
Delhi's charming: Sunidhi
The list of hit songs that Sunidhi Chauhan has sung is long and her latest, “Sheila Ki Jawaani” is what the nation is currently singing. And the biggest addition to this list would be her collaboration with Latino pop icon Enrique Iglesias.
But for Sunidhi, her experience will become extra special only if she manages to bring Enrique to Delhi to perform live. “The feedback that a performer gets from Delhi’s audience – which is always encouraging – makes the city an instant hit.

If everything goes well, I would like Enrique to visit the city for a performance for Dilliwallahs,” she says.
Born and brought up in Delhi, Sunidhi stayed in Azad Market for over eight years before her family shifted to Dilshad Garden. “It’s difficult to explain the bond I share with Delhi. There’s something indefinably charming about the city, which has helped me develop a strong sense of belonging towards it,” she says. Any special memories of the days she spent in Azad Market? “If anyone leaves me there even today, I’ll be able to find my way back to my home. This despite the fact that I was only 5 when we stayed in Azad Market. If we happen to go to Azad Market, it’s me who guides dad to our home.”
Have she ever tried to meet the people they knew there? “A year and a half ago, I dropped in at one of the local shops, Shri Ram Sweets in Dilshad Garden. And it was a great to meet the shopkeeper, the person who’d often give me rasgullas for free. Maine unse 5 rupaiye mein 12-15 rasgulle kaafi baar khayein hain. It would only take me four minutes from the shop to my place, and those four minutes I would utilize only to gorge on rasgullas. I’ve also taken money without informing my mother and eaten sweats to my heart’s content. Not once did the shopkeeper complain to my parents. Woh sirf meri side lete the. Yehi hai woh apnapan hai jo Mumbai mein nahin mil pata.”
