The woman, whose mellifluous duets rendered along with her late husband Jagjit Singh still spell sheer romance for music aficionados, is on a mission these days. She voices her angst in an emotional interaction...

Without mincing her words, she says: I was tired and extremely angry watching the way many concert organisers were exploiting Jagjit Singhs name. And I finally decided to take legal action against all the offenders. One particular case is pending in Delhi High Court and I would not like to speak about that. But I want to warn all the people who want to draw commercial mileage using Jagjits name that I will not sit as a mere spectator; I will not leave those who steal my dues. As his legal heir, I have copyrights,

intellectual property

rights and personal rights, which allow me to seek legal action against all the offenders. Enough is enough.

Chitra Singh: Its sad that India has ignored Jagjit Singh

Those who take the charitable concert route to steer clear of copyright infringement laws, are also warned by the ghazal singer as she says: Any charity that people do, is their business. And whatever money that they earn from concerts using Jagjits name has to be given to the singers family.

But this stance of hers has apparently angered some of the singers, who have been singing Jagjits

ghazals

in their concerts. To this, Chitra says: I have never stopped anybody from singing my husbands songs. In fact, I want people across the world to sing his ghazals and keep them alive. But yes, they must not advertise the events as Jagjit Singhs concerts or use his picture for commercial purpose.
