Bhupen Hazarika celebrates 85th b’day in ICU

Assam CM sent a personalized letter wishing him speedy recovery. Kalpana Lajmi announced her next film Kaanch on the occasion.
Veteran singer Bhupen Hazarika, who has been hospitalized since quite some time now, saw happy times today as he celebrated his 85th birthday in his ICU room. Amidst much media fanfare, the celebrated singer cut his birthday cake and managed to speak a few words, showing signs of improvement.
A close source present at the occasion said, “This is perhaps the first time that Bhupenji has spoken properly in months. Also he is breathing normally. Moreover the singer, who was not allowed any food intake orally and was fed liquid through tubes, did manage to taste his birthday cake for a pleasant change”.
Dressed in his trademark Assamese topi, Bhupen Hazarika seemed elated seeing his well-wishers around on his birthday. The source adds, “The Chief Minister of Assam sent a personalized letter to Bhupen Hazarika on this occasion wishing him speedy recovery and praising his work as an artist. The letter was read out by Bhupenji’s sister-in-law, Manisha Hazarika”.
Kalpana Lajmi who has been by Bhupen Hazarika’s side forever announced her next directorial venture on the occasion – Kaanch. Not just that, Lajmi also declared that like all her films, the music of Kaanch will also be given by Bhupen Hazarika. “Dhrub Jyoti Phukan who has been an assistant with Pritam for long will be arranging the music of the film and Bhupen Hazarika will be conducting and supervising the tunes”, said Kalpana Lajmi. “Some old tunes composed by Bhupen will also be incorporated in the soundtrack”.
