Bangalore heat gets to Bobby
Legendary blues singer and songwriter Bobby Whitlock had a case of the weather blues in Bangalore, where he performed last week. But far from making heavy weather of it, the former Derek and the Dominos member gave the audience no inkling of the discomfort he was in and waved aside all entreaties from organizers that he take a short break.
Says our source, “Though Bobby’s from Austin, which he says is hotter than Bangalore, the humidity in the city last weekend was uncharacteristically high.

On top of that, Bobby was rehearsing onstage at around 2.30 pm with the sun’s heat falling right on his face. From that scorching afternoon, he went back to his air conditioned room to take a shower and get ready for the evening’s performance. There wasn’t even a suggestion of breeze that evening, and a few songs into the show, Bobby began to sweat profusely.”
Gesturing with his hands, Bobby made fellow musicians onstage know he was unwell. Our source adds, “I sensed what was happening up there, handed Bobby some cold towels, and suggested that he take a short break. But Bobby wouldn’t hear of that, saying, ‘I am going to finish what I started’. The next song he belted out was 'It’s Not The End Of The World'.
The audience was ecstatic, and there was nothing in Bobby’s performance that gave any indication of how unwell he felt. But I felt that Bobby needed to go a bit easy and asked for the lights to be dimmed so that Bobby could be escorted to the green room where there are coolers installed.”
Continues the source, “But Bobby’s response stumped me. He said, ‘I have given them a hell of a show, and ain’t nothing's gonna stop me’.” After the show, Bobby was whisked away in an ambulance for a check up.
