Badshah reignites feud with Honey Singh over 'Brown Rang' credits: 'I wrote it, not him'
Badshah has once again sparked the industry in India’s hip-hop scene by claiming authorship of the 2011 hit ‘Brown Rang,’ a track widely associated with Yo Yo Honey Singh. The controversy resurfaced on July 22, when Badshah responded to a fan’s post on social media with a pointed one-word jab: 'Credits.'
Badshah has previously accused Singh of being “self-centred,” alleging that he made collaborators sign blank contracts and failed to acknowledge their contributions.
“He had the beat, but I wrote the song”
The rapper elaborated that in 2011, Honey Singh had called him to mix a track. At the time, Badshah had already written ‘Brown Rang,’ while Singh had a beat paired with lyrics that Badshah described as “weird.” He offered to rewrite the lyrics, and the final version, according to Badshah, was entirely his creation. He also claimed to have written the rap portion of ‘Angrezi Beat,’ another track often credited solely to Singh. Badshah said it in various 2024 interviews.Mafia Mundeer: From brotherhood to breakdown
Both artists began their careers as part of the now-defunct hip-hop collective Mafia Mundeer, which also included Raftaar, Ikka, and Lil Golu. In the early 2010s, the group became well-known underground thanks to songs like 'Khol Botal,' 'Begani Naar Buri,' and 'Delhi Ke Deewane.' However, internal disputes over contracts, credit, and creative control led to a sour split.Badshah has previously accused Singh of being “self-centred,” alleging that he made collaborators sign blank contracts and failed to acknowledge their contributions.
Social media clash: “Chomu, I’m not doing this for your support”
The latest flare-up began when a fan posted a collage of Honey Singh’s physical transformation and jokingly asked, “What did he eat?” Badshah replied with “Credits.” When another user tried to defend Singh and claimed he wrote Brown Rang, Badshah shot back: “Chomu, tere support ke liye nahi kar raha main ye,” making it clear that he wasn’t seeking validation but setting the record straight.A feud that refuses to die
Badshah publicly expressed his desire to end the feud at a 2024 concert in Dehradun, calling Singh "a grudge he wanted to leave behind." His recent statements, however, suggest that tensions are still simmering beneath the surface. Fans continue to disagree, some of them support Honey Singh's heritage, while others support Badshah's claims.Top Comment

With all due respect, it might be time for Badshah to move forward and invest his energy into something fresh. While it's completely understandable that every artist wants to stay relevant in an ever-evolving industry, constantly revisiting the Honey Singh feud—even after a decade—makes it seem like there’s little else fueling the buzz. At this point, it’s beginning to feel a bit repetitive—drop a new album, take a jab at Honey Singh, stir up some headlines, and call it PR. It’s starting to resemble the male version of the Kangana playbook. There’s so much more he’s capable of—perhaps it's time to let the work speak louder than the controversy. At this stage, both artists have achieved enough success and financial security to not be overly concerned with credit for songs that were released over a decade ago—especially ones that, for most people, have long faded from memory in this new era of music.Read allPost comment
