Asha Bhosle’s distinctive voice gave soul to countless film songs, becoming the heartbeat behind performances where actors lip-synced to her unforgettable tracks. Her immense influence in Bollywood was celebrated globally through the 1997 hit ‘Brimful of Asha’ by Cornershop, while her artistic reach extended internationally through collaborations with British musician Boy George.
While the world celebrates her musical brilliance, those closest to her recall a different side, one rooted in empathy and grace. The legendary singer left behind not just an extraordinary body of work but also countless personal memories of warmth shared with people who knew her away from the spotlight.
Sunam Salve, who served at her residence for more than four decades, recalled her as a deeply empathetic employer. “She always treated me with respect. For someone like me, who comes from a poor background, that meant everything. I was very worried when I heard she was hospitalised. I came to know about her passing on Sunday morning, and it is deeply painful. She even visited my village once, and refused me leave,” she shared with Mid-Day.
Pushpa Navar, who had earlier worked with Lata Mangeshkar and stayed closely connected with the family, struggled to put her grief into words. “Asha-didi was very kind. I have no words to express this loss. The family always treated me like one of their own,” she shared, emphasising the sense of belonging that defined the household.
A yoga instructor associated with the family also spoke about her experience, choosing to remain anonymous. “I would often visit their home, we shared conversations like a family. Her nature was extremely warm,” she said, reflecting on the singer’s welcoming personality that made everyone feel included and valued.
