Artistes Sohrab Nicholson and Rohan Ramanna speak about their band and journey

The story of songwriting-producer duo of

Rohan Ramanna

coming together makes the phrase ���chance encounters��� believable.

The two first met at Rohan���s studio, which he had especially built for indie bands so they can have access to a good recording studio. ���We wanted to inspire musicians to take time while writing and producing since it is most often the most overlooked aspect,��� says Rohan. As Sohrab was looking for something on the same lines, their aesthetics matched and they soon collaborated to come out with their first EP.

Talking about their band name, Sohrab says, ���I neither wanted to use my full name nor was any other alias resonating with me so I simply used my last name. The band name certainly has been a source of confusion for people. There's a funny story attached to it, though. Almost 20 years before I met Rohan, he lived next door to a Mrs Nicholson, who we later figured out was my great aunt,��� he says.

On their a-ha moment: Performing for events like the Magnetic Fields Festival and their UK tour re-instils their faith in all the hard work they put in.

On their brand of music: They insist their work is not limited to a specific genre and in fact, draws from anything that fuels their writing and compositions. As a result, they are inspired by everything ��� from classical to hip-hop and feature film scores.

On their musical influences: While Sohrab attributes his influences to his everyday experiences and things he does, for Rohan, his family is his biggest inspiration. He says, ���I have learnt how one can achieve anything with hard work from them. On the musical front, my biggest inspirations are J Dilla, Robert Glasper, Chris Dave and John Coltrane.���

On their way ahead: The two often collaborate with Dirty Jays (bassist Stuart Dacosta and drummer Jehangir Jehangir) for large-scale events and are working on a couple of other alliances. ���We will be hitting the studio this monsoon to write out our first album,��� says Sohrab.
