Anusha to release her first international single

Anusha Dandekar talks to Harshada Rege about movies and music — the two things that she just can’t do without
Anusha to release her first international single
Anusha Dandekar is twice as excited. The VJ-turned-actress will release her first international single soon and has recently starred in a Marathi film. Excerpts from an interview...
Tell us about the release of your first international single.
I’ve been shuttling between Mumbai, New York and LA recording tracks with very talented producers and song writers. It’s been an amazing experience.

But my favourite track, which is now my debut international single, is called 'Better Than Your Ex'. I think everyone will relate to the song; it’s fun, peppy and almost everyone has an ex, right?
Let’s talk about your Marathi movie.
Jai Jai Maharastra Majha started a year ago when director Gautam Joglekar got in touch with me. I loved the story, but I was sceptical about doing a lead role in a full-fledged Marathi film because my Marathi is alright, not g-r-e-a-t! That was a bit of a challenge. A lot of pain, sweat, tears and hard work went in to it, and I hope everyone appreciates my work. I know Marathi actors are very well respected; I don’t want to let them down.
You styled yourself in the film?

I play an international tennis player in the movie. I felt the character would look great in casual, comfy and sports clothes. They are all my clothes which I pieced together. I wore very little make up and mostly kept my hairstyle the same throughout.
Your favourite Marathi film?
I have seen a few Marathi films, mostly the newer ones, especially Mahesh Manjrekar’s films. His recent movie Kakasparsh was brilliant! We have incredible actors, beautiful music and as the budgets get bigger, so will the films.
You got a lot of praise for I Hate You (Like I Love You) from 'Delhi Belly'. Got anymore item songs in the kitty?
I don’t have any songs in the pipeline in Bollywood, but I am in every single song of my Marathi film! When I do another song like it, I want it to be memorable and catchy. Most importantly, it has to be relevant for the film. It also depends on the kind of film it is. And, of course, a great hook step, with super stylish outfits, that’s all!
