Music: Anupam Roy, Zee Music
Rating: 3
Composer-singer Anupam Roy is the latest musician from Bengal to join the ever-growing Bollywood club of composers. His compositions bring a freshness to the soundtrack of Piku.
Opening song Bezubaan is a case in point — fresh on the ears and blending the sitar with a western arrangement. Anupam sings it himself ably. Manoj Yadav’s words like ‘Har dooriyaan, har faasle kareeb hai, is umra ki shaksiyat ajeeb hai’ are perfect for the road movie vibe.

The road tripping theme continues with Journey Song. The best song on the record, it melodiously blends rock and pop with some Bengali interludes. Anupam and Shreya Ghoshal’s voices fit well into the theme. Anupam writes travel-appropriate lines like ‘Dheere
chalna hai mushkil to jaldi hi sahi, aankhon ke kinaro mein, bahane hi sahi’.
Next up is Lamhe Guzar Gaye. It flows on a philosophical note, with guitar and percussion for company. Anupam’s voice is thoughtful. Title track Piku is a lively character sketch of the leading lady, and the story. Singer Sunidhi Chauhan is her usual energetic self. Love song Teri Meri Baatein has a heard-this-before feel to it. Composed, written and sung by Anupam, it is a feel-good number for the ears and heart.
