A highly experimental album comprising nine tracks, some popular and some lesser known, Kotha definitely succeeds in raising eyebrows. And the surprise is evoked as much by Nikhita's unusually husky voice as by the experimentation in the music arrangement.
In some of the tracks, like Parodeshi Megh, it works.

But in most it ends up being confusing. Take for example, the absence of classical instruments such as tabla, or the lack of vocal strength that characterises numbers such as Srijano Chonde. Uday's velvety voice lends the much needed gravity in the duets, making up for the lack of versatility in Nikhita's renditions.
But Nikhita deserves appreciation for the finally executed harkat in tracks like Aaj Shefali and Madhabilata. The album though needs more finesse. She needs to work on her grasp of unconventional taals like jhanptaal, because it seems like she is eating up the last words of phrases.
