Music: Pranit Gedham Rating: *1/2
Getting right down to it, Club 60 offers nothing new in terms of a musical experience. Composed entirely by newcomer Pranit Gedham, it feels stuck in the past for the most part. Arijit Singh sounds eerily in parts like
Shaan (with a bad throat) on the first track,
Pal Pal. Lyrics-wise and complexity-wise, it leaves a lot to be desired.
The Sad version, with a slightly different arrangement, is far shorter (1.40-odd minutes) and in effect, more potent. Raju Singh sings
Rooh Mein, sounding like his voice was meant for ghazals. The lyrics are above par, but the music itself is quite ordinary in arrangement.
Nandini Shrikar (she last sang
Duaa in
Shanghai) comes next on
Mera Saaya, which kind of redeems the album from the rut it finds itself at this point. Her voice takes precedence over a sombre yet quietly vibrant soundscape.
Then there’s Raghubir Yadav on the folksy
Wah Wah.... It’s a likeable, upbeat piece but with no repeat value and more so, has really limited appeal. The album itself, in totality, doesn’t keep you hooked.
