Mollywood: Rock fusion seems to be the in thing in Malayalam these days, the latest in the block is Prakashame in Shyamaprasad’s 'Artist'. The film is known more for its aesthetics than the music but the two songs by Bijibal do not disappoint. The composer has made use of Vinod Varma’s strong, forceful singing style for Prakashame and the guitar in intro itself captures your attention.

Thankfully, the makers haven’t gone for a sad song to portray the struggles of an artist gone blind. The song drags a bit towards the middle but picks up again with the chorus. The classical humming bit also provides a welcome break. However, the track seems a bit too soft and toned down for a typical rock composition, it’s not clear whether this is intended or not. Iraveyil Viralukalal is a smooth, pleasant composition, K S Chitra’s vocals being the best part of it.
However, one wonders why such a traditional melody and arrangement is used for visuals which portray a couple celebrating their love in completely non-traditional ways. Rafeeq Ahmed’s lyrics in both the songs deserve special mention.
