Music review: Jack & Dil

'Jack & Dil', a romantic comedy, stars Arbaaz Khan, Amit Sadh, Sonal Chauhan and Evelyn Sharma in lead roles. This film, touted to be a light-hearted romantic-thriller, features two songs (at the time of going to press).

The first track, 'Ishq Slow Slow' is a typical love song, which has a familiar ring to it with its slow (predictably), easy-on-the ears arrangement — nothing that has not been done before.

Ramji Gulati is definitely a much better singer than composer. Even the Hinglish lyrics by Bipin Das are simple and touching, however, there is nothing outstanding about it.

With a name like 'Chuski Mein Choom', the track has all the potential to make it to the top of a double-entendre song list. Lyricist Vayu begins with ‘Uthe subah ko aisi uthti talab, ki bed pe chahiye woh, na mane meree lab, kahe choom, chuski mein choom’, and then goes on to glorify the multiple positives of this staple Indian beverage — a harmless cup of chai.

Singer Sonu Kakkar’s rap in a husky, sexy intonation, adds to the chutzpah. ‘Hari patti, kali patti, jo mili ubali patti, Choti si nirali patti, muh mein aa gayi saali patti, Jitna bada cup, lage utni chai sexy…’ Arko Pravo Mukherjee’s music and rendition is smooth. This one is not the usual mellow compositions of Arko ('Nazm Nazm', 'Bareilly Ki Barfi', 2017). The singer-composer’s noteworthy EDM score is groovy and high energy.
