One of the West’s leading cross-cultural ensembles ShivaNova will hit Mumbai, with their mishmash-ed music from around the world, today.The ensemble was put together by Priti Paintal, a composer of Indian origin who also sings for the troupe. Shivanova’s music combines jazz, classical, Tibetan chants, folk with Indian classical music, producing tracks that have the virtuosity of jazz and the rhythms of the other genres and the flair of classical music.
ShivaNova has an admired education programme with workshops in Indian classical and folk music, vocal improvisation, Indian dance and singing, and DJing and also organised the Girls Only Global Orchestra project for young girls and women.
In 2007, ShivaNova got into concert management and have launched a sister concern called Equator, that gets together the world’s best musicians on one stage. Their work with promoting music among kids continued in 2009 with the Equator Choir Competition which was done in |collaboration with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Their concert in India is being organised by the ICCR.
