Metallica enthusiasts will be in for a double treat this October when the American heavy metal band performs its first concert in India. The band is performing in Gurgaon on October 28 to mark the launch of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and DT has learnt that the band, and the company F1 Rocks, which is organising the concert, is looking for an Indian band to open the concert.
A highly placed source tells us that Metallica itself will select the band. An Indian company named Talenthouse has been signed on to select ten upcoming bands from across the country, and their videos will be sent to Metallica, which will select the winner. Our source says, “The band will be finalised by the end of this month. Since people are being informed through social networking sites, the cost of auditions has gone down drastically. Rock festivals have been contacted in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, and a massive online search is on at the moment. While the contest is open to all, popular and older Indian bands may not want to go through a contest for this – but you never say no. The organisers are open to everyone. Their focus is to find the absolute best ten rock bands to be presented to Metallica.” The team from Talenthouse remained unavailable for comment.
