Mamata Shankar and her troupe put up a scintillating performance as they enacted Rabindranath Tagore’s “Hori Khela”, recently, at a city auditorium.
The event, that was held in honour of Uday Shankar’s 111th birth anniversary, saw Mamata in the pivotal role of the widowed queen of Ketun, hell-bent on avenging the slaying of her husband at the hands of the Pathans.

The stagecraft was exquisite as the courtroom of the Pathan king was beautifully recreated. The costumes (by Mamata Shankar), the ambience, the lighting (by Chandrodoy Ghosh and Ratul Shankar Ghosh) and the music (by Dipak Chowdhury, recreated by Pt Tejendra Narayan) were spot on.
