Not everyone can share the stage with Ustad Rashid Khan. But Hariharan is different and he proved his mastery over his craft at Soul Searching, a programme hosted at the Science City last Saturday in association with The Times of India. While the first half of the show had Hariharan singing ghazals like “Dil-e-nadaan tujhe hua kya” and “Galat hain muskurana chahta hai” and Khan presenting Raag Shree, the second half came as a pleasant surprise when Hariharan spoke of how he had been mesmerized by Khan when the latter was just five.
As the evening wore out, Khan and Hariharan sang of loneliness in “Bedardi tu ne dard na jana” and “Yaad piya ki aye” and Pt Swapan Chaudhuri gave able tabla support. Purbayan, who walked in to the concert with Arpita, said, “Rashid bhai and Hariharan gelled well together. Just like there were guitar (Sanjoy Das) and sarengi (Murad Ali) complementing each other in the finalé, I’d have liked if there was another percussionist complementing the very classical accompaniment of Swapan jethu.” Follow us on Twitter for more stories
