Gunidas Sammelan turns 34
The Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan is one of the most prestigious music festivals in Mumbai.
Named after the late Jagannabuwa Purohit, a venerated composer who was a teacher to many well-known singers like Manik Verma, Ram Marathe, Yashwant B Joshi and Jitendra Abhisheki.
This year it will be held at the Jamshed Bhabha Auditorium in the NCPA complex. "For the first time the Sammelan has shifted to the posh environs of South Mumbai," says Satish Vyas, the moving spirit behind the festival and also a santoor player of repute.
Perveen Sultana, the eminent singer and Rashid Khan are scheduled to sing this year.

Young sitar wizard Niladri Kumar will also perform as also the flautist Rakesh Chaurasia. Like his legendary uncle Hariprasad Chaurasia, flautist Rakesh Chaurasia exhibits the right balance of power and serenity in his playing.
Over the last two decades, 39-year-old Chaurasia has consolidated his position among the leading bansuri players of his generation, one who is equally popular for his Hindustani classical recitals and his fusion concerts.
