With Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s short stories as inspiration, theatrician Ramanjit Kaur staged “...When Things Go Bump In the Night...” at a studio in Tollygunge.
The play is about three characters, each inspired by Divakaruni’s different short stories. Problems faced by women form the premise of the play. For instance, one character faces stern opposition from her husband when she is about to give birth to a girl child while the second character is forced to flee her home with her mother after facing abuse from the father.

The third character tries to come to terms with her relationship with another woman, comparing it constantly to her relationship with her husband.
“The best thing about the show was that it witnessed a full house despite the fact that it had rained constantly for three days before the play was staged,” said Ramanjit who directed the play. The cast, Dipabali, Disha and Kavya, who are also students of theatre, added their own context to the play by improvising on the subject.
