A blend of world famous musicians — Trilok Gurtu (percussion), Nishat Khan (sitar), Larry Coryell (guitar), Frank Martin (keyboard), Lili Haydn (violin) and Itai Disraeli — came together to celebrate the seamless collaboration of their individual styles of music at Kalamandir, last Wednesday. Despite the late start, the musicians made up for the delay with their extraordinary concoctions.
Beginning that evening was Nishat Khan with his earthy tones, soon backed by the rest of the musicians. “It is an honour to be here in Kolkata, especially during Nishatji’s birthday week,” said Lili before her solo performance. Trilok’s impeccable tabla and drum rolls, Larry’s Iindo-jazz tunes, Frank’s interludes and Itai’s bass tones kept the show going till late that night.
