The trend of classical music concerts has seen a sharp dip, feels tabla maestro Bickram Ghosh.
To revive and resuscitate classical arts, a festival, devoted only to classical music and dance, was held at a city auditorium, recently. Says Bickram, “There is a need to keep classical arts alive and I am glad that the programme turned out to be such a well-attended one.” In the course of the event, sarod maestro Pt Buddhadeb Dasgupta and classical vocalist Arshad Ali Khan were presented with the Lifetime Achievement and the Best Talent awards respectively.

While Piyal, from Kalamandalam, enthralled the audience enacting portions of the natyashastra, tabla exponent Subhajyoti entertained with his beats. Also seen at the do were Pt Ajoy Chakrabarty and Pt Shankar Ghosh.
