Maestro’s musical tribute to theatre doyenne

Since 1985, on every February 28, at the Prithvi Theatre, tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain has been performing a concert in memory of Jennifer Kapoor, who started the Prithvi Theatre Festival. Kapoor was a great admirer of his work but her wish to watch him live at Prithvi couldn’t be fulfilled.

Since 1985, on every February 28, at the Prithvi Theatre, tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain has been performing a concert in memory of Jennifer Kapoor, who started the Prithvi Theatre Festival. Kapoor was a great admirer of his work but her wish to watch him live at Prithvi couldn’t be fulfilled.
And so, as a tribute, Hussain started the memorial concert. In its 31st year, this time, the concert titled ‘Rukhsat’ and will include classical/fusion music and dance performances by the following artistes – Ranjit Barot (drums), Dhaffer Youssef (oud), Niladri Kumar (sitar), Dilshad Khan (sarangi), Vijay S Chavan (dholki), Deepak Bhatt (dhol) and Antonia Minnecola (kathak).
