Asees Kaur: Music emerges from the heart, it should be soulful

Singer Anees Kaur talks about what music means to her and more

Singer Asees Kaur

is a young, talented artiste, who has rendered popular songs such as ‘Jaan Ban Gaye’ (‘Khuda Hafiz’), ‘Ve Maahi’ (‘Kesari’), ‘Bandey Re Bandey’ and ‘Tere Bin’ (‘Simmba’), ‘Akh Lad Jave’ and ‘Chogada’ (‘Loveyatri’) and ‘Bolna’ (‘Kapoor & Sons’) over the years.

In an exclusive chat, the Punjabi singer reveals how music needs to be soulful if one wants it to strike a chord with listeners. She says, “For me, music has to flow like water. It has to be soulful and come from the heart.”

Asees also says that if she were given an opportunity to sing with an international artiste or be a part of their concert, she would like it to be Taylor Swift. “Apart from Swift, I would also love to collaborate with singers and composers like Mithoon, Arijit Singh and Tanishk Bagchi.”

When Asees is not busy singing, she is spending time at home with her children. She says, “I love to spend time with my family and travel. Other than that, I am happy singing or listening to music.”

Her future plans include a new song, which is all set to release. “I have done many singles. As movies have been postponed due to the pandemic, I can only talk about film songs once their release date gets finalised,” she adds.

Having sung popular songs like ‘Baarish’ (‘Half Girlfriend’) and ‘Ikk Kudi’ (‘Udta Punjab’), Asses advises people to sing from the heart. She says she is happy that fans have appreciated her work. She says, “I like all types of music, but mostly it is about how your heart reacts to it when you hear a music piece.”

On a parting note, we ask the talented singer if she suffers from

performance anxiety

. “Every time before going on stage, yes, I do get nervous. But a little bit of anxiety helps in giving a good performance. Overconfidence in any form never helps an artiste,” she signs off.
