Political drama 'Shorgul' featuring Jimmy Sheirgill, Hiten Tejwani and Ashutosh Rana recorded a low opening at the box-office. It opened at around Rs 40 lakh. The film, which was not released in Uttar Pradesh lest it triggers riots, will have to make the most of the weekend as Salman Khan's big Eid release 'Sultan' comes out on July 6, 2016.

1. A PIL was filed by a VHP Leader in Allahabad High Court bench in Lucknow demanding to ban the film's release alleging that many characters in the film are inspired from real-life politicians.

2. CBFC snipped the words Godhra and Gau Ganga from the film.

3. The makers claimed that the film had been banned in Muzaffarnagar. A fatwa was issued by Khamman Peer Baba Committee against Jimmy Sheirgill and the makers.
