Her husband Amarchand alleged she was kidnapped at the behest of Water Resources Minister Mahipal Maderna. He alleged that Maderna used to call her regularly and that "I told him once to stop calling my wife, but he denied the fact and instead accused my wife of calling him".Bhanwari Devi allegedly had a CD showing her in a compromising position with Maderna and was using it to blackmail him before she went missing. The Bhanwari Devi case has nearly brought down the Rajasthan government forcing Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to affect a major Cabinet reshuffle.
