Throwback pictures of the iconic R.K. Studio

It's a sad moment in film history as the Kapoor family has decided to give away their iconic R.K. Studio. It can be called as an end of an era. R.K. Studio was erected by the showman Raj Kapoor in the year 1948 and now exactly after 70 years, the property is up for sale, sighting losses. Rishi Kapoor said that it has been a heart-wrenching decision for the Kapoors to close down something which is associated with their name for so long. Each and every member of the Kapoor family is massively connected to the hallowed grounds. We put together a few throwback pictures of R.K Studio that will take you back in time.

A place where iconic films were shot

Taking R.K.Studio to the successful heights was not an easy job. The first film produced under the banner incurred losses and bombed at the box office. However, with the 'never-say-die' attitude, it produced several other films which finally saw a good start. The film saw great success with 'Barsaat'. After this success, the company's logo was drawn to imitate the poster of 'Barsaat'. Successful films such as 'Awaara' (1951), 'Boot Polish', 'Jagte Raho' and 'Shri 420' followed. Not only iconic films were shot at the studios but the Kapoors also used to organise their Holi parties.

Fire at the iconic place

On 16 September 2017, RK studio caught fire and parts of it were burned to the ground, leaving the major property into ashes. A massive fire broke out in the studio during the shoot of a television reality show and the studio was in blazes. Thankfully there were no casualties but it incurred heavy losses. When the fire broke out, actor Rishi Kapoor tweeted “Sad a major fire broke out at RK Studio. We have lost the iconic Stage 1. Thankfully no casualties nor injuries. All your concerns appreciated.”

A joint decision to sell the iconic property

After the sad demise of the legendary actor Raj Kapoor, his son Randhir Kapoor took over the studio and later his younger brother Rajiv Kapoor directed a few films -- 'Prem Granth starring Rishi Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Eventually, Rishi Kapoor directed 'Aa Ab Laut Chalen' which did not do great at the box office. However, after sighting losses and the recent fire broke out, the entire family including Raj Kapoor's wife Krishna Raj Kapoor, sons Randhir, Rishi, and Rajiv, and daughters Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain have taken the decision to let go of the property.

R.K.Studio was like a second home for Kapoors

Kareena Kapoor in a recent interview got nostalgic and shared that the iconic place was a fond treasure of memories for them as they have walked around the corridors of that 2 acres of property all their lives. The family initially was giving a thought to renovate the place after the fire broke out but that is not possible with such incurring loses.
