'2.0' director Shankar reveals he initially approached Arnold Schwarzenegger to play the antagonist

'2.0', starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar is all set to enthral the audience when it hits theatres worldwide next week. However, did you know that Akshay, who plays the antagonist in the film, was not the initial choice for the part?

"We had thought of casting Arnold. We had talked and allotted dates also. But somehow things did not work out as the contracts of Hollywood and India are contradictory. So we thought of looking at a good cast from the Indian film industry," Shankar said at a press conference here.

"Lyca (producers of 2.0) and Akshay were in talks for a remake of a film called 'Kathi' in Hindi. Everyone told me to consider Akshay and I also thought it would be nice. I narrated the story to him and he said yes," the director said.

Revealing the reason behind the film's title, Shankar said that the technology was better than the previous film and hence decided to title the film as '2.0'.

'2.0' Teaser: Akshay Kumar's fans upset over actor's minimal screen time?

Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar, who are set to lock horns in the sci-fi thriller'2.0', unveiled the film's teaser on Thursday amidst much hype and anticipation. Minutes after it was released, social media went berserk and started sharing their favourite moments from the clip that literally "defied science." The teaser went on to garner over 32 million hits in a day and has since been the talk of the town.

It seems that the teaser, featuring Akshay as the antagonist in his Tamil debut, has apparently left many of his fans disappointed. According to reports, fans who had expected Akshay to have a longer screen presence and feature in a more prominent role were disappointed with the actor's blink-and-you-miss-it screen time.

'2.0', a sequel to 2010 film 'Enthiran' directed by S Shankar, stars Rajnikanth, Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson, Sudhanshu Pandey and Adil Hussain in pivotal roles.

Rs 543 crore spent on VFX of the Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth starrer ‘2.0’?

The makers of Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer ‘2.0’, have reportedly spent a whopping 75 million dollars on the VFX which amounts to Rs 543 crores approximately. Akshay, who is making his Tamil movie debut with the mega-budget film took to Instagram to share a poster which read: "2.0 by Shankar, India's first 75 million Dollar VFX wonder.”

He wrote along with the poster, "2.0 is an effort unlimited of more than 3,000 technicians around the world. #2Point0Teaser in 3 days!‬ @2point0movie #2Point0."

‘2.0’ is touted to be “India's first 75 million dollar VFX wonder” which roughly translates to Rs 543 crore. The film has been in news ever since it was announced, not just for its stellar star cast but also for its massive budgeting.

The release date of the film, however, has been pushed in the past quite a few times because of the time it took for VFX completion but looks like the makers are finally set to wow the audience with the sequel to ‘Enthiran’ (‘Robot’). While the teaser of the film is slated to release on September 13, the film will hit the big screens on November 29 this year.

'2.0' in trouble due to low Box Office performance of 'Kaala'?

Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer '2.0' is one of the most anticipated movie of the year. Filmy buffs are just waiting for the movie to hit the silver screens.

However, Rajnikanth's recent release 'Kaala', might put '2.0' in a tight spot. Reason? the low box office numbers. Reports suggest that 'Kaala' didnt do well at the ticket window, especially, with the Hindi version as it didnt even manage to collect Rs. 10 crore which has left the distributors in worry for his next release.

The report further suggests that '2.0' has gone over-budget. In fact, it has been made on a budget of Rs 450 crore, which makes it the most expensive Indian film ever. So in order to recover the invested costs, it might be impossible to recover if it receives the same amount of response like 'Kaala'. True that!

Without making any further speculations, lets wait for the big release.

‘2.0’: Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer gets another Rs 100 crore added to inflated budget?

Touted to be one of the most expensive Indian films to date, ‘2.0’, starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in lead roles, reportedly has a budget of Rs 400 crore. If latest reports are anything to go by, then the makers have added another Rs 100 crore to their already inflated budget to complete high-end post-production work.

According to reports, director Shankar is trying his best to meet release date deadlines, but not by compromising on the post-production and VFX factors. While aiming to match up to international standards, the director who is also known for his technical wizardry, is reportedly going all out. This, in turn, has the producers reportedly shelling out Rs 100 crore more on the sci-fi flick.

The film which has long been in the making, will now reportedly release in January 2019.

‘2.0’ Teaser leak: Soundarya Rajinikanth slams the “heartless” act of piracy

An unfinished video from Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer ‘2.0’ found its way online. The video with temporary graphics got leaked on the internet. The leaked footage which is around 44 seconds long was immediately shared by many on social media. Though there were few who were elated to get a glimpse of the Tamil superstar in the teaser, most of them were extremely unhappy by the leak.

Movie buffs and critics criticized the alleged leak stressing on how so many years of hard work of technicians goes in vain in few minutes.

Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth slammed the act on her Twitter account, “Leaking content online before the official release should not be TOLERATED or ENCOURAGED ! This is a heartless act ignoring hard work, efforts and sentiments of the makers for few seconds of excitement !!! #BeAshamed #StopPiracy #StopMisusingDigitalMedium.”

Akshay Kumar jokes about how he "enjoyed getting punched" by Rajinikanth in '2.0'

Shankar's '2.0' starring superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, promises an out of the world visual experience coupled with action stunts and sequences that match international standards. '2.0' : Release date of Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer deferred to April 2018

In what may come as a bit of a disappointment to Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar fans who have been waiting with bated breath for the release of the magnum opus '2.0', the release of the SciFi action thriller has been pushed to April 2018.

The makers recently issued an official statement that read, "Lyca Productions-Superstar Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar-Shankar magnum opus SciFi action thriller 2.0 (is) to be screened worldwide in April 2018. Nation’s costliest 3D film starring Superstar Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson, directed by Shankar, music by AR Rahman. The high-tech post production works are fully geared and the team is all set for the release schedule."

The delay is reportedly because of the hi-tech post-production work, which the producer claims is on in full swing.

It may be recalled that the team had earlier announced that the film would hit the screens on January 25, 2018.

Akshay Kumar denies clash between his two films ‘2.0’ and ‘Padman’

The films in question are the Rajinikanth starrer ‘2.0’ and Akshay’s home production ‘Padman’. Many considered it a bad decision since the juggernaut sci-fi film could easily outdo ‘Padman’ at the ticket window. However, now Khiladi Kumar has finally put all rumours to rest.

The actor spoke about the rumours and said that a lot of false information is being circulated around lately. He also added that either ‘Padman’ or ‘2.0’ will release on Republic Day. Of course, this leads to the question of whether the release of ‘2.0’ will be pushed further, to which the actor replied that if ‘2.0’ releases on R Day then he will postpone ‘Padman’ and if not then he will release it.

Either way, it looks like a win-win situation for Akshay as either one of his films will definitely make it to the theaters on January 26, 2018.
