Prem Ratan Dhan Payo's sets were lit up with lights worth Rs 15 crore?

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo sure looks like an expensive film, what with the lavish sets and elaborate costumes that all the cast seems to have been swathed in. However, what comes as a surprise is that the film's lighting alone has cost a whopping Rs 15 crore, as stated in a Mid-day report. A unit hand has been quoted in the report as saying that director Sooraj Barjatya is known to spend lavishly on set design and since his upcoming film revolves around a royal family, he has made it as opulent as it could get. The source further adds that lights were an important element of the set design and the cost of illumination over the 258-day schedule has come to somewhere between Rs 13-15 crore. A source close to the production team has also been quoted in the report as saying that, "Exquisite and expensive lights were purchased for the shoot because Sooraj sir was clear about lending a grand look to the film. And with Salman deciding to let go of his fee, the director was able to spend generously on the production."

Salman won't be present for the first screening of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo?

Sooraj Barjatya has apparently insisted that Salman will not be amongst the first ones to watch Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Instead, he wants stalwarts like his father and Salman's father to watch the film before everyone else. After watching Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman's father, Salim Khan had insisted that the promotional song, 'Aaj ki party' be removed from the end credits of the film and that had indeed added to the film's appeal. Sooraj must be expecting a similar, honest opinion about his film which is why he might have decided to let the veterans watch the film first.

Sooraj Barjatya recreates Sheesh Mahal for the film

Sooraj Barjatya recreated the Sheesh Mahal for his upcoming Salman Khan-starrer, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, as an ode to Mughal-e-Azam which inspired him to become a filmmaker, reports Mumbai Mirror. In a Mumbai studio, director K Asif had built a replica of the Sheesh Mahal in the Lahore Fort. Measuring 150 feet in length, 80 feet in breadth and 35 feet in height, this palace which took two years to build, was made of glass imported from Belgium and cost more than the budget of an entire film in those days. 55 years later, Sooraj Barjatya has got his art director, Nitin Chandrakant Desai, to build him a Sheesh Mahal in his Karjat studio for his film, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which explodes on screen this Diwali. It is a replica of the one Asif built and pays an ode to his Mughal dream. Says Sooraj, "I have been inspired, awed and overwhelmed by Mughal-e-Azam, a film that has always fuelled my imagination as a writer-director. We tried to pay a homage to this cult classic, which has shaped the Indian film industry in many ways by constructing the Sheesh Mahal. It is intrinsic to the plot. How Salman's story and the Sheesh Mahal are connected will be revealed when the film opens on November 12."
