‘PadMan’: Reasons to watch the Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte starrer

After a rather dull 2017, hopes are riding high on 2018 with some really interesting films lined up. Of the whole lot of amazing upcoming projects, ‘PadMan’ undoubtedly remains one of the most anticipated films of the year. If a film helmed by R Balki and starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika all together are not enough reasons; here we give you a rundown of more reasons to watch the film...

Social dramas are the key

Bollywood came up with quite some films based on social issues in the year gone by. Right from ‘Pink’ to ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ to ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’, the films addressed important issues and stigmas of the society. Out of which, the Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer had an actual impact on the society by bringing to light issues of building toilets and proper sanitation for women.
Now, Akshay Kumar is all set to do the same with his next, ‘PadMan’. The film deals with the issues related to menstrual hygiene. The topic is something that is still a stigma in the Indian society. And Akshay Kumar addressing another social issue after ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ would be very interesting.

Holiday treat

After the makers announced the film, starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte, its initial date was reportedly said to be on April 13, 2018.
However, with the first poster of ‘PadMan, Akshay Kumar gave us a glimpse of his character along with the announcement of the official release date i.e. January 26, 2018. The holiday release ensures that the maximum number of the audience can catch the movies in the theatres on the very first day of its release.

Star-studded social drama

Most often it is not the A-list actors who are seen doing socially relevant films. But the year 2017 changed this for good. Akshay Kumar’s ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, not only did commercially well but was also appreciated by audience and critics alike.
Following the same, Akshay is once again at it. This time the Khiladi of Bollywood is accompanied by Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. Radhika Apte has proved her mettle in Bollywood time and again and Sonam’s last film ‘Neerja’ gained her National Award.
Sharing a picture with Radhika on twitter, Akshay wrote, “The REASON he became #PADMAN...find out on 26th January 2018. @radhika_apte @PadManTheFilm @sonamakapoor @mrsfunnybones @SonyPicsIndia @kriarj #RBalki”
Akshay also introduced her character as, “The STRENGTH behind #PADMAN...find out on 26th January 2018. @sonamakapoor @PadManTheFilm @radhika_apte @mrsfunnybones @SonyPicsIndia @kriarj #RBalki”
It is a star-studded film with a social message and is definitely something to watch out for.

Real life inspiration

‘Padman’ is a film that addresses an important issue like menstruation. However, the film is not a tale of fiction and that it has been inspired from a real-life story.
The movie is a biopic on Arunachalam, a small town entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu, who invented low-cost sanitary napkins to generate awareness in rural areas.
The R Balki’s directorial has Akshay Kumar playing the role of Arunachalam and Radhika Apte plays his wife. Sonam Kapoor, on the other hand, plays someone who seemed to have guided and helped him through his venture.

Akshay as an Indian superhero

For us, superheroes are the one who can fly with a cape around his neck, fight and possess some supernatural powers. Very less often have we considered people, who have served the society selflessly or the one who tries and makes an impact for the good of the society, as a superhero. And ‘PadMan’ leads us into that direction.
The poster of the film which has a tagline stating ‘Super Hero Hai Yeh Pagla’, tries to make an impression that superheroes do come without capes. With Shaktimaan and Krrish, it seems India has another superhero in the making, ‘PadMan’.
7/7

R Balki on Biopic

After impressing us with his body of works that include films like ‘Cheeni Kum’, ‘Paa’, English Vinglish’, ‘Ki & Ka’ and ‘Shamitabh’, ace director R Balki is all set to do it again with his social drama ‘PadMan’.
Known for his fictional content, it came as a surprise to the audience when R Balki announced a biopic. Speaking about it, he had reportedly said that although he never wanted to make a biopic, the story of Arunachalam fascinated him. He also added that he wrote the movie keeping in mind the character and Akshay Kumar both.
With a captain like him at the front, the film is sure to win hearts.
