Deepika Padukone’s cheeky reply to Swara Bhasker’s open letter on ‘Padmaavat’
According to reports, when asked about some feminists opposing the film Deepika reiterated that the time period should be taken into consideration. Responding to questions on Swara's letter, Deepika guessed that the actress probably missed the many disclaimers at the beginning of the film when she went out to buy popcorn. She also added that the film should be taken in its totality, which signifies the strength, power and dignity of women.
Meanwhile, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film is kicking up a storm at the domestic and worldwide box office. The magnum opus has already recorded the highest overseas weekend opening with an estimated collection of over $11 million.

Talking about the latest discussion surrounding jauhar scene, the actress said that neither she nor the makers endorse the practice in any way. She also added that the scene must be taken in context to the time period the film was set in. Deepika feels that when taken in its intended context, the scene is powerful as she thinks her character finally reunited with the one she loves.
While she is aware of the criticisms, the ‘Padmaavat’ actress also pointed out the phenomenal praise the climactic scene has been getting, with many standing and applauding it in theatres.

Post the release of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, Deepika has hinted that fans should not look forward to seeing her star in another historical drama. While the film will not be hitting screens on its scheduled December 1 release date, efforts are being made by various fringe groups to get it banned altogether. At the film's 3D trailer launch, the actress revealed that she would initially rehearse a lot before shooting a particular scene but her performance has become more instinctive now.
"With Sanjay Leela Bhansali, you don't count the number of takes, you just go with the flow. You have to switch off from things like your heavy headgear, costume or how uncomfortable the dupatta is on your head. When the camera is on, it is all about what I am doing and the energy. After the shoot, you realise (there are) injuries," she said at the event.
