Iconic trends introduced by Bollywood films

When it comes to Indian fashion, Bollywood movies have forever governed the trends and created lasting impressions on the minds of the audience. From Mumtaz's orange gown style saree to Salman Khan's Dabangg glasses, the style inspirations from Bollywood fashion are aplenty. Scroll down to take a look at few of them:

Saree with a twist

The song ‘Aaj Kal Tere Mere’ song from the movie ‘Brahmachari’, instantly springs to mind an effervescent Mumtaz fluttering around in the tangerine saree, draped in a peculiar manner. This became a sensation in Indian fashion and set a new benchmark for innovations in the age-old traditional attire. The style was so unusual, a kind that Indian actresses had never opted for, but became exceedingly popular when Mumtaz donned it and flaunted it with panache and ease.
3/6

Rise of the bohemian era

Bohemian- a word that probably every fashion lover has heard of. The first thing that comes to mind when you say hippie is Zeenat Aman in the film ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, who created waves with her westernised hippie or boho dressing in the '70s. Her long and well fitted printed tunics paired with wide-legged pants and the tinted glasses were a big hit back in the day.

Karan Johar's college campus fashion at it's best

Think Karan Johar films and a series of dream colleges will flash through your mind. Well, the young director started the trend in the late '90s and still continues to give the audience some major fashion goals through his films. KJo's directorial debut 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' revolutionised college into a whole new cool. Sweatshirts, micro-mini skirts, Kajol's bob haircut, cheesy friendship bands, headbands... all became an instant hit back then. His other films like 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham', 'Student of the Year' and '2 States' also saw some really fashionable trends pick up.
5/6

Salman Khan's 'Tere Naam' hairstyle

When it's Salman Khan, you can expect a mass following. That's exactly what happened after the release of his 2003 film 'Tere Naam'. We’ve all cringed when Salman sported his long greasy locks in 'Tere Naam'. But believe it or not, from autowallahs to college youngsters, everybody wanted to ape their favourite superstar by flaunting this hairdo.
6/6

The 'Dabangg' aviators

Salman Khan is inarguably the most followed superstar. His masala entertainer 'Dabangg' created much of a buzz among the audience and Salman’s style went unbeaten. His aviators which had a reflection of hearts in 'Dabangg', took the fashion scene by storm. After that style gained humongous success, Salman as Chulbul Pandey, brought cracked aviators tucked at the back of his collar in 'Dabangg 2'.
