Earthquake in Nepal: Celebrities react on Twitter

Amitabh Bachchan lost his cool when some online users alleged that he was writing about Nepal tragedy just to gain attention. While the Piku actor used some harsh words to make his point, he later apologised for the same on his blog. The actor is furious and has slammed some online users, who have accused him of trying to garner “publicity” by talking about Nepal earthquake victims on his social media pages. Big B has been active on Twitter, Facebook and blog with updates and appeals for the help of quake victims in the neighbouring country. “They comment I write about it for comment and sympathetic publicity. IDIOTS! They need to be sent to the tube for long hours of investigative procedures, and made to languish in that odoured ‘keechad’ that colours their insides!!,” [sic] Bachchan wrote on his blog. “Some other in the other medium slither in the scum of incognito ed garbage, and wish to learn what I do in capacity of help and care to those that remain stranded and scarred, blemished by nature, as it shakes in its slumber,” [sic] he added.

The generally eloquent Piku star admitted that his words were harsh today but said it was needed to correct those, who were calling his noble motive a publicity gimmick. “There is a distaste in my words today, my apologies. At times it is time for it. I would not hesitate to deliver what to me would mean and spell anger and beyond. No no no… That is not right, nor correct… It is self destructive… No… I am not that… I never was… I never shall… Forgive… forget…” [sic] he said.

Earthquake in Nepal: Celebrities react on Twitter

In a chat with Mumbai Mirror, Emraan Hashmi has shared details of Kunal Deshmukh's whereabouts in Nepal. The filmmaker was in Nepal for a school friend's wedding when the earthquake struck. Kunal immediately texted Emraan, who has worked with him in films like Raja Natwarlal, Jannat 2, Tum Mile and Jannat, assuring him that he was safe. However, it was only the first of the many texts from Kunal. "The hotel was evacuated following fears of after shocks and everyone spent Saturday night out on the 18-hole golf course," Emraan informed Mirror. Early on Sunday, they reached the international airport hoping to catch the 2.20 pm Jet Airways flight back to Delhi. But after fresh tremors, the flight didn't get permission to land. And around 4 pm, Kunal whatsapped Mahesh Bhatt saying, "Waiting for Jet flight. Meanwhile, have made a queue behind a Royal Air Force plane evacuating people to Delhi." Three hours later, he texted Emraan that both the 2.20 pm and the 5.15 pm flights had been suspended and they were camping on the tarmac with no plans of returning to the resort even though the control tower had been evacuated. “It's crazy but at least my friends are together. I think rations are running low at the airport. Since all commercial flights have been cancelled, the Indian Air Force flight is the best bet," said Emraan. Kunal's last message to Mahesh Bhatt read, "One Jet flight just landed. Our flight is expected to get here at 10 pm. Fingers crossed."

While Kunal Deshmukh waited on the tarmac to be rescued, another actress wished she could take a flight to Nepal. Read on to find out more...

In an interview with Mid-day, Manisha Koirala, who hails from Nepal, has confessed that she was very worried for the well-being of her family and friends in the quake-stricken country. Manisha was quoted in the report as saying that, she didn't know how to react and that it was a huge blow for a country like Nepal that is already going through a political crisis. Although she is relieved that her parents, former Cabinet minister Prakash Koirala and Sushma Koirala are safe, the actress is eager to meet them. “I wish I was with them right now. But as of now all airlines have cancelled their flights to Nepal. I will take the first flight out once they resume service,” she said. She is, however, happy with the way the Indian government has reacted to the natural calamity and gone all out to help the neighbouring country. “I am touched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concern and the compassion with which he has acted. Also, I applaud the media, which has acted very responsibly. My country is in crisis and we need help and support from every corner.”
