Deepika took the opportunity to talk about her struggle with depression while she received the honour.
She professed, "February 15th, 2014, I remember waking up that morning with a strange pittish feeling in my stomach. I had no idea what I was feeling. Life all of a sudden just felt meaningless and there were days when I just wanted to give up. And a couple of weeks later I was diagnosed with clinical depression.
Four years on I stand here in front of all of you with a slightly better understanding, I think, of life and my feelings and the person that I am, but I feel like more importantly, I think all of you will agree with me when I say that we’re going through some pretty challenging times all around the world.
And so I want to raise a toast to every man and every woman and every child around the world that is faced with some sort of challenge every single day, but you do it with a smile, and I want to say that your power and your strength and your courage encourages me to go on every single day. And for the some of us I think who do think of giving up once in a while, I want you to know that we’re all in this together, and most importantly that there is hope, because in the words of Stephen Fry, "Will be sunny one day.’ Thank you.”

The film is apparently an adaptation of S. Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai and Deepika is expected to be playing the lead role based on the life and times of Ashraf Khan while Irrfan Khan will be seen as a baddie in the film.

Deepika Padukone speaks up about the two lowest points in her life
In a recent interview with Filmfare, the 'XXX: Return of Xander Cage' opened up about the lowest points in her life. She was quoted saying, "A broken relationship and depression. Those were the two very low points of my life."
Deepika even revealed how her family and friends helped her stay grounded and deal with her issues. "Well, time and a lot of work on myself helped me overcome it. It came with an amazing support system, my friends and family. My friends and family keep me grounded. They keep me rooted. They anchor me. Also, today my work is everything. My work is me. I have created it. I am responsible for my success and failure. No one else can take that away from me. That's on what I have focussed all my energies and efforts. It's my baby."
Now that was surely an inspirational message from the actress who will soon be seen essaying the character of Rani Padmini in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati' which also stars Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh.
Deepika Padukone on 'Padmavati': Why have our films been held on ransom?
In an interview to Filmfare, Deepika Padukone commented on how people from the film industry are held to "ransom" no matter what the issue was, and how that needs to stop.
Deepika was quoted saying, "We belong to this land as much as anyone else. So why are we constantly held responsible for everything political and otherwise that goes on here and have our films held on ransom? Really, it has to stop!"
The film, set in the 14th century, that depicts the life of queen Padmini, has been criticised by various political and fringe groups for allegedly distorting history.

According to reports, Deepika spoke about her co-star Shahid and said that he found it tough to work with SLB as it was his first time. She felt that she and Ranveer have now become accustomed to Sanjay’s style of doing things, so it was much easier for them. However, she felt that since Sasha was like an "outsider"; he must have had to put in extra efforts to get in the groove.
Speaking also about the emotional toll ‘Padmavati’ took on her, Deepika said that she and her two co-stars will find it difficult to get out of character till the film is out in theatres on 1st December.

Deepika Padukone says father is looking for a match for her
Much to everyone’s surprise, the actress spoke candidly about her romantic relationships at the launch of Hema Malini’s biography. At the event, Deepika was quoted saying, "Romantic relationships are complicated."
Taking a cue from Hema’s own experience of her parents putting matrimonial ads on the paper, Deepika joked, "Like Hema Malini's dad did, my father may also be looking for a match for me."

In a recent interview, Deepika revealed that her battle with depression had been "such a bad experience" that she always carries the fear of a relapse. She said, "I don't think I can say that I'm completely over it (depression). There is always a fear at the back of my mind that I might have a relapse because it has been such a bad experience for me."
When she was questioned if her condition had ever cost her any film, Deepika said, "Maybe there are people who haven't offered me films because they think I was depressed and I can't act. Maybe, I don't know. I'm in a good space because I can choose the movies that I want to act in, but I don't think everyone has that luxury of where they want to work or when they want to work."
The brave star, who went public about her battle with depression even said, "I didn't think about the repercussions. The idea really was to change the way people in India and the world see mental illness."

However, Deepika revealed that the only reason she is on social networking platforms is because she loves one-on-one interactions with her fans.
Talking about her favourite social networking site, she said, "Well I think social media is a bit contradictory to my personality. I'm someone who likes to keep things personal and private, and I'm not too comfortable with sharing my every mood and emotion. But what I appreciate about the platform is the fact that it gives me the opportunity to interact with my fans and to have that one on one direct connection with them. And if I had to really choose one platform, I think it would be Instagram because I think pictures really speak a thousand words and personally I'm someone who is very shy. I'm not someone who is very comfortable with expressing myself with words, but I like expressing myself through emotion, and I think images and photographs are a great medium for that."

Be it her bout of depression or her Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Deepika Padukone has never shied away from revealing certain truths about her life. According to a report, when the pretty actress was asked about what advice she would give someone who’s suffering from an OCD, she stated that she was no professional to give any sort of advice. However, she added that the person should be allowed to do whatever he or she is doing. The actress also went on to reveal that she feels quite awkward when her friends point out her OCD. Adding to it, Deepika said that OCD didn’t really bother her, and that she found it very therapeutic.

What you can’t take away from someone is their talent, which he is blessed with. He is also very hard-working. He is not someone who takes his lineage for granted. He is not someone who takes the audience or the film for granted. I have also been through phase of my career where some of my films back-to-back did not work.
