Baazigar

Shah Rukh Khan’s 1993 starrer Baazigar was the first film in which he played the role of an anti-hero. The film also stars Kajol and Shilpa Shetty in prominent roles and the film was directed by Abbas-Mustan. It is also the first film in which SRK-Kajol were paired opposite to each other. This film as well as their chemistry, was loved by the audiences and the film was super hit. In the film Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of Ajay Sharma who disguises himself as Vicky Malhotra to seek revenge from businessman Madan Chopra who destroyed Ajay’s family in the past. Shah Rukh Khan’s character Ajay dies in the end of the film. During his death scene, the actor falls in his mother’s arms and he breaths his last by saying ‘Ab mein jee bhar k sona chahta hoon Maa..’. Baazigar is also the first film in which Shah Rukh Khan’s character dies. Shah Rukh Khan’s performance was appreciated by the audiences and he also won Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

Darr

Darr is a 1993 romantic thriller starring Sunny Deol, Juhi Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan in the lead roles. Shah Rukh Khan essays the role of Rahul who falls in love with Kiran played by Juhi Chawla. With time, Rahul’s love turns into an obsession for Kiran and he goes ballistic when he finds out that Kiran is already in love with Sunil played by Sunny Deol. Darr is King Khan’s 2nd movie in which he plays a negative role. Shah Rukh Khan’s character Rahul gets killed by Sunil in the end of the film when Sunil shoots 3 bullets from his gun. Shah Rukh Khan’s performance in Darr is considered to be one of his best. Darr won a National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and also SRK was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Villain.

Anjaam


Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit’s 1994 starrer Anjaam is his third film in which the superstar plays a negative role. The plot revolves around Shah Rukh Khan who plays the role of a rich man Ajay Agnihotri who falls in love with Shivani played by Madhuri Dixit who does not like him. When Ajay is rejected by Shivani who later gets married to someone else his blood boils for revenge and he swears to make Shivani bite the dust. In a sequence of inhuman events Ajay devastates her family and sends her to jail. Shivani who is left with nothing, not even the fear of death is all set to avenge every single atrocity hurled on her by Ajay when out of the jail. She tries to throw him off a steep precipice but being the compulsive winner Ajay can’t bear to die alone and tugs on Shivani’s feet, finally Shivani gives up all restraint to save herself because she feels Ajay is a beast who should die at any cost, be it her own life. SRK won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for his performance in the film.

Karan Arjun

1995 blockbuster film Karan Arjun stars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Raakhee, Mamta Kulkarni, Kajol in the lead roles. It is a film based on reincarnation. In the film Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan play the roles of Arjun and Karan respectively. They are attacked along with their mother by the villain who has an eye on their estate. Both, Karan and Arjun die whilst their mother (Rakhee) survives the attack. Both the characters are reborn into different families with different names who have no idea about their past lives. Arjun is reborn as Vijay and Karan is reborn as Ajay and at the end when both the characters are reminded about their past lives they avenge all the atrocities hurled on them and their family by the villains. Karan Arjun won two Filmfare awards.

Ram Jaane is the fourth hit film in which Shah Rukh Khan plays a negative role. This film was released in the year 1995 and also stars Juhi Chawla and Vivek Mushran in the lead roles. Shah Rukh Khan essays the role of Ram Jaane who is a gangster. At the end of the film, Ram Jaane is sentenced to death by the court for all his wrong doings and he is hanged till death. Shah Rukh Khan gave a good performance in this film for which he also won Screen Award for Best Actor.

Amarkant Varma (Shah Rukh Khan) is a program executive for All India Radio who falls in love with Meghna (Manisha Koirala) unaware of the reality of Meghna who is a suicide bomber. In the end of the film, Meghna plots a suicide bomb attack when Amarkant stops her and the moment he hugs her, the explosive vest she is wearing explodes killing both.

Devdas is a 2002 super-hit film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It is based on the novel of the same name by the legendary Bengali writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. There have been a lot of versions of this novel in the past. This one stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles. Devdas is a story of a lovelorn named Devdas Mukherjee (Shah Rukh Khan). Dev loves Paro (Aishwarya Rai) but his family strongly disapproves of the alliance. Torn between his love for Paro and the duty towards his family, he becomes an alcoholic. Dev dies a tragically in the end. Shah Rukh Khan was lauded big-time for his method-acting in the film and the film also went on to win five National Awards and nine Filmfare Awards.

Shakti: The Power

Directed by Pasupuleti Krishna Vamsi, the film stars Karishma Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Nana Patekar in the lead roles and Shah Rukh Khan in a supporting role. Shah Rukh Khan essays the role of Jai Singh who tries to save Nandini (Karishma Kapoor) and her son from the goons. The goons attack Jai Singh with their weapons but he fights them all till his last breath. Reportedly, everyone’s acting was acclaimed by fans and critics, yet the film bombed at the box office.

When he remembers everything that happened to him in his past life he seeks revenge from Mukesh Mehra for Shanti Priya’s death. This is Shah Rukh Khan’s second film which is based on reincarnation. In SRK’s 2011 magnum opus Ra.One his character Shekhar Subramanium is a game designer who dies abruptly. During his lifetime Shekhar had launched a game Ra.One upon his son’s request where antagonist (Ra.One played by Arjun Rampal) is more powerful than the protagonist (G.One). The film won one National Film Award, one Filmfare Award and four IIFA awards.
