BMC elections 2017: Bollywood stars cast their vote

Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan arrived late Tuesday evening to cast his vote at the BMC elections 2017. The actor made a brisk visit to the polling booth at Mount Mary, Bandra with his body guard in tow. Dressed in a simple navy blue tee and camouflage pants, SRK didn’t pose for photos or stop to give his views about the elections. While many other celebrities have come forward to encourage the people of Mumbai to come out in large numbers and make an educated vote, Shah Rukh kept his opinions to himself, but made sure to exercise his franchise.

A galaxy of stars descended at polling booths across the city to cast their vote at BMC elections on Tuesday. Fulfilling civic duties doesn’t have to be a dull and boring job, at least not for Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, who made his way to the nearest polling booth in Bandra in a neon tee and funky shades. After casting his vote, the ‘Padmavati’ actor took to his social networking handle to proudly flaunt his inked finger and captioned it, “Vote”.

John Abraham flashed his trademark dimpled smile as he stepped out to cast his vote at the ongoing BMC elections. The actor, who even took a selfie while getting inked at the polling booth, made a humble request to the people of Mumbai to make their vote count. John was quoted as saying, “The BMC elections are important as they help in solving ground issues and infrastructure issues. I would request everyone to vote. Make sure you study your candidates properly so that you can determine which candidate is good (sic)”. Stressing on the importance of making each vote count, John added, “My entire family has voted.”

Anushka Sharma was proud to announce that she began her Tuesday morning by fulfilling her “duty towards our country and its progress” by casting her vote at the BMC elections. The ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ actress took to Instagram to share an image of her inked finger. Having done her bit for the country, she urged others to cast their vote. She wrote, “Started my morning by casting my vote. Voting is our collective duty towards our country & its progress. Pls go out & vote #VoteKarMaharashtra”.

Bollywood’s evergreen beauty Rekha was one of the early birds to arrive at the polling booth to cast her vote. The actress, who looked ravishing as always in a white saree, posed for the shutterbugs before zooming back home.

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, who went to cast vote in the 2017 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, was not allowed as his name was missing from the voter list. Speaking to reporters at the venue, the actor said, “My name has unfortunately not shown up in the list. It's very bizarre because I voted last year. I’m going to find out where my name is from the Election Commission.”

Zoya Akhtar couldn’t stress more on the importance of voting. After casting her vote, the director had a brief interaction with the media where she revealed her expectations from the elected candidate. Citing environmental issues as important as infrastructural issues, Zoya said that she hoped for a cleaner and greener city. She was quoted as saying, “I hope that whoever gets elected this year can look at Mumbai in terms of infrastructure and environment, because I think that the citizens are really suffering. It is not possible to be on the streets, it is not possible to breathe, to walk. So I’m just hoping that people will focus on cleaning the city, infrastructure and environmental issues. We need to save Aarey colony to start with. We cannot keep cutting trees, we cannot put things in the ocean, we need to clean it up and to take care of our city and make it ‘liveable’.”
