Best of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at Cannes so far...

Fifteen years after the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Devdas’, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to present the opulent romantic tragedy to an international audience for a second time. Ash made her debut on the red carpet of Cannes Film Festival with the same film in 2002. In a recent official statement where she reminisced about her Cannes debut, she said, “We attended the festival not just as artistes but as proud representatives of Indian cinema, and showcasing a film that meant so much to us. The kind of reception we got for the movie was truly overwhelming and I will cherish it all my life.”

Aishwarya will be attending the 70th edition of the film festival on May 19 and 20.

What happens when two of the most beautiful women in the world pose for the camera's together? It creates a frenzy of course! At the 69th Cannes Film Festival, Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan posed with the stunning 'Gossip Girl' star, Blake Lively. Marking her 15th year at the prestigious film festival, Aishwarya looked every bit a diva in her gorgeous Elie Saab couture gown. In a moment of absolute picturesque perfection, the former Miss World then went on to pose with Blake Lively, who looked straight out of a Disney movie, flaunting her baby bump in a stunning blue Versace gown. Both the ladies were representing cosmetic giant L'Oreal Paris at the gala.

Putting an end to our wait for her Cannes look, ravishing beauty and former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made a stunning appearance at the Cannes Film Festival by dazzling in an ivory and gold gown with a cape by Kuwait’s Ali Younes. The super gorgeous diva was the perfect epitome of grace in the figure-hugging gown as she represented L’Oréal Paris on the red carpet. And with the pinch of turquoise eye-shadow, Ash ensured that she made all heads turn at the star-studded event.

However, we had to be content with her Cannes appearance as the diva did not attend the amfAR gala as she was busy with the promotions of her film ‘Sarbjit’. On the other hand, Sonam Kapoor attended the amfAR gala for the first time, giving us another moment to be proud of.

Cannes 2014: She was back and how! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan showed the world she's totally worth it when she finally walked the Cannes red carpet this time. The Bollywood actress glittered in a gold Roberto Cavalli off-shoulder dress at the premiere of Two Days, One Night. With her hair let loose and bold red lip colour that did all the talking, Ash surely looked like a diva!

Aishwarya first walked the Cannes red carpet to promote her film Devdas. Dressed in a yellow sari with heavy gold jewellery, the actress looked like an epitome of grace. Aishwarya had shared the stage with Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali that night. Since it was the premiere of her film and given the look and feel of the movie, Aishwarya's jewellery that was too dramatic for a red carpet outing could be excused.

THE BAD While black is surely a safe bet always, we can't say that for Aishwarya Rai's red carpet appearance here. Ash wore a black ankle length gown with what looked like a white coloured cape attached to it for the premiere of 'The Matrix Reloaded' in 2003. Her straight hair left loose yearns for a stylist and that black gown falls a mile short of making a statement. The silver shimmery clutch didn't go with the look at all. All in all, Aishwarya Rai failed to impress here.

THE UGLY Just look at the picture. Need we say more? This was by far Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's worst appearance at the Cannes Film Festival so far. We thought it is nearly impossible to make the world's most beautiful woman look so bad, but our worst nightmares came true looking at Ash walk the red carpet in this parrot green sari in 2003. This Neeta Lulla outfit that Ash wore at Cannes got a lot a criticism from the media and has definitely retained its number one position as the worst Aishwarya Rai look so far. Aishwarya's hairstyle was another shocker at this event. Her high bun added to Ash's red carpet woes that year.

After a dismal start at Cannes, Aishwarya Rai found her footing in a floral Giorgio Armani gown. We got a glimpse of a gracefully beautiful Ash in this breezy number. All of her outfits so far had been heavy on either bling, jewellery or just top heavy and this floral number came as a refreshing change. Even though the hair was predictable, it worked well with the outfit. This minimal jewelery look got Aishwarya a much needed applause for her look at Cannes. She wore this outfit for the premiere of Match Point in 2005

THE BAD This is what Aishwarya Rai, a jury member, wore at a film screening at Cannes- A curtain dress! Aishwarya Rai wore this horrible long skirt and a heavily embroidered tube top as a choli at Cannes in 2003. Aishwarya Rai wore this outfit for the screening of the film 'Les Egares' at the Palais des Festivals during the 56th International Cannes Film Festival. Moving on with her fad for sky high buns that year, Aishwarya's debut at the Cannes red carpet didn't go down well with fashion critics and rightly so.

THE UGLY Aishwarya's designers were big on the lehenga choli look in 2003 but none that she could be proud of. Aishwarya wore an ugly pink strappy top with a heavily embroidered lehenga at Cannes. Her hair in a bun and that garish make-up, Aishwarya Rai's outfit screamed to be noticed and burned! The diamond jewellery didn't go with the outfit, but it doesn't matter as Ash had already registered a place for herself in the hall of fame with some of her other unsavory choice of outfits that year.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan silenced her critics when she stepped out at the Cannes red carpet in 2009. She wore a pleated gown with gelled, pulled back hair and a chic clutch. This look of Aishwarya is simply impeccable. She looks effortlessly stylish and raring to go. Her husband Abhishek Bachchan too accompanied her to Cannes that year.

THE BAD While she stands tall in a pose that she can now call her own, Aishwarya Rai's little black dress doesn't ring a bell at an international awards function. To attend a photo-call for her film 'Raavan', Aishwarya's LBD and that centre parting didn't impress anyone. A lot of critics called her chubby and even commented on how Ash has put on weight in her ankle area. Weight issues or not, Aishwarya's this look looked more suitable for a casual night out with friends rather than for a red carpet appearance for an international awards function.

THE UGLY After her horrific debut with the parrot green sari, Neeta Lulla made Aishwarya Rai go through another painful journey at the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in 2004. This key hole white shimmery dress worn by Aishwarya Rai at the opening ceremony of the 57th International Cannes Film Festival and the screening of 'La Mala Educacion' was nothing less than a disaster. Aishwarya made headlines with her oh-too revealing outfit that flouted the sexy look the actress and her designer had probably aimed for. A cut out waist and a plunging neckline makes this gown a real downer.

In 2006, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan donnes a blue Elie Saab gown at the Cannes red carpet. The beautiful actress looked graceful in a well fitted off-shoulder gown that had a beautiful flare towards the end. Her hair and make-up was up to the mark and although we aren't fans of that snake necklace she flaunted, there wasn't anyone complaining about Aishwarya's look that year.

THE BAD Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore a white and blue Armani Prive gown and surely made heads turn for being different. While the cut of the gown was rather dramatic from what we are used to seeing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in, her look didn't go down very well with fashion critics. Ash's fierce look and that predictable up-do received a lot of flak especially. Some critics also lashed out at Aishwarya for putting on weight and showing a lot of flab in that dress. Flab or not, we aren't fans of that dress, the updo or Ash's hand accessories!

THE UGLY Somebody should have shown Aishwarya Rai Bachchan a mirror before she stepped out on the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival in 2010. Even though the Eli Saab lilac gown looked good, Aishwarya's hairstyle earned more negative points than ever before. The hairstylist should have felt content with just a bouffant but sadly didn't. There are good and bad hair days, but when your hairstylist is in a bad mood, it is advisable to stay away. Ash's signature style open hair or a small updo would could have saved the day here. Aishwarya walked the red carpet with this look for the premiere of 'Robin Hood'.

After a lot of criticism coming her way, Aishwarya hit the nail on its head with a black gown with a sheer waist in 2005. The actress made for a stunning picture at the Cannes Film Festival red carpet at the premiere of Lemming. Danglers for earrings and a chic bracelet were the only jewelery Ash wore for the event. Her gown with a plunging neckline and laced waist tipped on the risque. One of the better looks that Aishwarya has sported at Cannes so far.

THE BAD If she was attempting to be a mermaid then she has definitely nailed it but otherwise Aishwarya Rai's black gown with ruffles does not go down well with us. In 2006 Aishwarya Rai wore this mermaid dress to a gala dinner at the 59th Cannes Film Festival. Although neck up Aishwarya looks as stunning as ever, but that dress isn't something we would have put in our travel bag while heading to the French Riviera. It's playing it too safe and even then not quite getting the desired results. A big nay for Aishwarya for this one!

THE UGLY Post the birth of her daughter Aaradhaya Bachchan, there was a lot of speculation about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's red carpet look. The new mommy showed the world her post baby look and revelled in a golden sari. However, her critics didn't seem to agree with her designers yet again. Ash's embellished high neck blouse with the saree added more years to her age than required. It was a good attempt by the designers to hide Ash's post pregnancy fat, but the high neck blouse and that hairstyle made her look more matronly than motherly.

In 2011, at the 64th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, Aishwarya walked the red carpet in another Elie Saab gown. And this time she nailed it. Ash wore a one shoulder peplum dress from the spring 2011 couture line and paired it with a Jimmy Choo clutch. Drop earrings, perfect make-up and a good hairdo elevated her look. Two thumbs up for this one!

THE BAD Aishwarya's appearance for the 2003 Cannes festival ended off at the Amfar Gala. Aishwarya wore a yellow off the shoulder floral dress for the event. And it seemed that Aishwarya had decided to pair every outfit of hers that year with Indian jewellery. She paired and RUINED her off shoulder gown look with a heavy jewellery set. Aishwarya's mother had accompanied her to the Cannes Film Festival that year.

THE UGLY Is that an animal hanging onto Aishwarya's neck? When we think the lady finally knows how to pull off a decent red carpet look, Ash stumps us with things like these. We want to gag, choke and puke all at the same time looking at this horrible blue dress with a fur attached to it. Although face up Aishwarya Rai looked good, neck down we are struggling to reach the phone to call the fashion police. And considering she wore this while promoting her film 'Bride And Prejudice'!
