Priyanka Chopra may be a superstar in India, but she knew that she would have to start from scratch in Hollywood. The actress said that she never let a sense of entitlement creep in and never expected superstar treatment in the West.
She explained, “You can’t be so entitled – just because you’re a star here, you should not delude yourself into believing that you’ll be treated like a star in every country. So I never expect that. I am okay walking into the room and saying, ‘Hi, I am Priyanka Chopra, I am an Indian actor’ and introducing myself to everyone in the room. It doesn’t make you small. Nobody (in the West) had seen my work till that time. I think the American press has been wonderfully accepting of me. I haven’t seen them being like this to a lot of Indian actors. They were friendly and loving to me. When I worked in India for the first time, even you guys (Indian media) didn't know me and over the years, you guys have warmed up to me.”
