Miss World: Aishwarya became the winner of the Miss World pageant of 1994. When Ash was studying in college she did a few modelling assignments and then TV commercials. She also entered the Miss India pageant and was later crowned Miss World in 1994.

Bollywood entry: Like many beauty queens, Aishwarya, too, got many offers for films. The actress made her acting debut with Tamil film, Iruvar, in 1997 and had her first Bollywood release, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, on the same year. Her Bollywood debut was not a commercial success but she was noticed by many filmmakers. In the year, 1998, Aishwarya grabbed attention with the big-budget Tamil romantic drama, Jeans, directed by S Shankar and was seen alongside Prashanth and Nassar.
