62nd Filmfare Awards 2017: Highlights of the big night

The prestigious 62nd Jio Filmfare Awards 2017 is being held at the NSCI Dome in Worli, Mumbai. The big night is being hosted by Shah Rukh Khan. And when you have Bollywood’s glitterati coming together under one roof, you can be assured of sheer magic. Here are the moments that caught our attention.

Host Shah Rukh Khan makes a dashing entry

The biggest awards night has officially begun! The baadshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan made a dashing entry on the stage on a harness. Needless to say, the crowd broke into a thunderous applause as their favourite superstar set the stage on fire. The ‘Raees’ actor performed to the song ‘Zaalima’. SRK even congratulated Shahid Kapoor and his wife Mira Rajput, and Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan who turned proud parents last year.

Varun Dhawan delivers the final act

In the final performance of the night, Varun Dhawan stole the show with his rambunctious act. The youngster performed to his hit numbers like ‘Tera hero idhar hai’, ‘Jee karda’ and ‘Judaai’. Varun, whose next project is Karan Johar production ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ even promoted the love story.

Alia Bhatt pays tribute to Bollywood’s evergreen beauties

Alia Bhatt was easily the star of the year, with three breathtaking performances in ‘Kapoor & Sons (Since 1921)’, ‘Udta Punjab’ and ‘Dear Zindagi’. The first performance of the evening was by the spunky actress – she paid tribute to the evergreen actresses of Bollywood. Alia began the act with an ode to her favourite Kareena Kapoor Khan as she danced to ‘Yeh ishq haye’ from ‘Jab We Met’. Next, she grooved to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s ‘Nimbooda’ and Sridevi’s ‘Na jaane kahan se aayi hai’. Her act also included tributes to Madhuri Dixit Nene and Karisma Kapoor.

Sonakshi Sinha burns the dance floor with her moves

Sonakshi Sinha sure knows how to get the crowd grooving. The ‘Lootera’ actress performed to a medley of numbers and boy, did she burn the dance floor with her moves! Sona darling shook a leg to the biggest chartbusters of the year – starting from ‘Dil cheez tujhe de di’ from ‘Airlift’ to ‘Let’s nacho’ from ‘Kapoor & Sons (Since 1921)’.

Salman Khan sways to his career best numbers

You know you’re in for a treat when you have Shah Rukh Khan hosting the awards and Salman Khan performing at the event. It definitely can’t get better than this. Salman performed to a medley of numbers that included his chartbusters like ‘Oh oh jaane jaana’, Munni Badnaam hui’, ‘Selfie le le re’ and the recent ‘Baby ko bass pasand hai’. The crowd went berserk seeing their favourite Khan shake a leg to his career best songs.

Best Debutant award-winner Diljit Dosanjh sings ‘Ikk kudi’ from ‘Udta Punjab’

Diljit Dosanjh already won the audience’s hearts with his sincere performance in ‘Udta Punjab’. But the actor wowed everyone once again at the 62nd Jio Filmfare Awards 2017 when he came on stage to collect the trophy for Best Male Debut. The Punjabi singer-actor crooned a few lines of the soul-stirring song ‘Ikk kudi’ as the audience cheered him on.

It’s raining stellar performances at the 62nd Jio Filmfare Awards 2017. After Salman Khan’s drool-worthy act, Tiger Shroff took to the stage to display his smooth moves. The dreamboat dancer grooved to hits like ‘The pappi song’, ‘Aa raha hoon main’ and ‘Dhoom again’.

Pritam wows the audience with his rendition of ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ title track

All those who swoon over Arijit Singh’s vocals have reason to rejoice. The talented singer bagged the trophy for Best Singer (Male) for his rendition of the title track of ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. While the singer wasn’t present at the ceremony to pick up the award, music composer Pritam collected the trophy on his behalf. What’s more, the music composer even regaled the audience as he crooned a few lines of ‘Ae dil hai mushkil’ that has been composed by him.

Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar and Kapil Sharma get into a qawwali face-off

What happens when you have three of the funniest men in showbiz under the same roof? Yes, it was utter madness as the evening’s host Shah Rukh khan, filmmaker Karan Johar and stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma came together for an act. The trio engaged in a qawwali face-off of sorts. Needless to say, the audience was left in splits.

Shah Rukh Khan serenades Shabana Azmi

Shabana Azmi deservingly won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Female) for her splendid act in ‘Neerja’. While Anil Kapoor and Raveena Tandon presented the award to the senior actress, it was host Shah Rukh who brought the high point in the proceedings. The actor serenaded Shabana as they shook a leg together to his popular romantic ballad ‘Janam janam’ from ‘Dilwale’. While the crowd couldn’t get enough, doting husband Javed Akhtar escorted Shabana off the stage.
