Zubeen Garg’s sudden and tragic death has deeply affected everyone. On Sunday, September 21, Assam woke up to sorrow as the singer’s body reached Guwahati. The entire city, along with his family, came together to pay their respects, with heartfelt moments shared widely on the internet. Thousands of fans gathered at Guwahati’s Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex to honor the beloved singer.

Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, fraught with grief looks visibly overwhelmed with emotion as she breaks down in tears. A video shared by ANI shows the singer’s body placed in a glass casket, with Garima gently resting her hands on top while crying. The footage also reveals that the late singer’s body was brought into his home to allow family and close friends to pay their final respects.

Assamese singer Zubeen tragically lost his life in Singapore due to a scuba diving accident. He had traveled there to perform at the North East Festival and was involved in the mishap on the day he was supposed to perform. Despite being rescued and rushed to the hospital, he could not be saved.

Zubeen honed his skills further by training in tabla for over a decade under the tutelage of Pandit Robin Banerjee. His introduction to Assamese folk music came through Guru Ramani Rai. Although his main body of work was in Assamese, Bengali and Hindi, Garg's impressive collection covered performances in more than 40 languages and dialects, such as Bishnupriya Manipuri, Adi, Boro, English, Goalpariya, Kannada, Khasi, Malayalam, Marathi, Mising, Nepali, Odia, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Tiwa.
