Zing is the Thing

Bollywood’s going ‘youthful’ in theme, dress and attitude.
Zing is the Thing
If 2007 was the year of the hockey coach and school teacher in Bollywood, then 2008 so far appears to be that of the collegian with the youthful look.
Its hot to be chirpy and in to be peppy this year. Not just for the heroine, but also the hero and the couples group of friends. Think youthful, and debutant Imran Khans Jaane Tu ...Ya Jaane Na comes top on the list.
1x1 polls
Playing just-out-of-college sweethearts supported by a motley group of friends, Imran and Genelia DSouza give college fashion trends a shot in the arm by wearing cool tees, blue denims and short skirts. Designer Ashley Rebello, who gave the actors this hit look, describes it as being Flawlessly comfortable in your skin.
Then theres Aziz Mirzas Kismat Konnection, inspired by the Hollywood film Just My Luck with Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine. In which out-of-luck architect Shahid Kapoor and an out-of-love social activist Vidya Balan set new trends with attire more in tune with co-eds of junior colleges in Mumbai. Designer Shabina Singh dressed Shahid in double-edged, full sleeved t-shirts and gave him an across-the-shoulder bag. While Vidya sported a short, free-flowing hairstyle paired with tunics which snugly covered her right till the knees. Cross threads with beads gave her a slender, youthful look which went down well with the audience (this time).
Also jumping onto the collegian bandwagon is Bollywood sex symbol Mallika Sherawat who, in Ugly aur Pagli, was made by designer Rangita Nandy to look flamboyant. Rangita says, Mallika plays an engineering student. We gave her colours, fabrics and silhouettes considering the growing trends among the youth. She wears cute skirts, stockings, leggings, short jackets, shrugs, in miss-matched colours to create a youthful ensemble. Since its raining of late, I went by the popular colour choice of whites and blues preferred by youngsters nowadays.
Hair accessories too make a cool statement. Genelia and Mallika both look cute with floral clips, hair bands that add zing to their outfits.
