In the 70s and 80s, which is considered the golden age of Malayalam cinema, Zarina has featured in memorable Bharathan films like Chamaram and Palangal. Later, she married Aditya Pancholi and survived a troubled marriage. They have a daughter Sania( Zarina wants to launch her in Tamil) and son Sooraj.
She has also been part of a number of successful television serials. Now, 28 years after doing her last Malayalam film, she is playing the role of Thangam Phillip, a widowed professor. Her daughter Kochu Rani (Navya Nair) meets a guy (Prithviraj), and her life undergoes a tremendous change. The film is directed by debutant Mahesh. Interestingly, she is shooting for Calendar as a professor in the same CMS College in Kottayam, where she shot more than 28 years back for Chamaram, in which she played a college lecturer!
