YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani apologizes after ‘saali mard jaat’ video sparks backlash; ‘Promoting unruly behavior publicly'

Content creator Ashish Chanchlani found himself at the center of backlash after sharing a video on social media. The YouTuber had posted a clip from Italy featuring an Italian man and a tourist woman. The video quickly drew criticism for being culturally insensitive, particularly over comments such as “saali mard jaat” and “tharki buddhe.” Though Chanchlani later deleted the post, copies of the video continued to circulate widely across the internet.

Following the deletion of Ashish’s video, influencers Rajat and Shilpa brought it back into circulation by resharing it. In the viral clip, Ashish narrates, "Avi ham log Italy mein hain, samundar mein surf kar rahe hain, baju mein budhha kaka hai...(sic)." He then instructs his teammate, who was behind the camera, to pan toward a man seated next to a foreign tourist. After calling out to the man and receiving no reply, Ashish adds, "Baju mein ladki baithi hui hai, usme laga hua hai."

Ashish Chanchlani responds to online criticism

Amid widespread trolling, Ashish eventually took down the controversial video from his social media account. Addressing the criticism, he clarified that everyone seen in the clip had given their consent prior to shooting. In his words, "This entire video was taken with their permission, i asked them if i can shoot." He also emphasized that the scene was entirely scripted and shared that the man in the video had even joked about it after the recording wrapped up.

Ashish also clarified that the woman appearing in the video was a member of his crew in Italy. Wrapping up his statement, he said, "I understand that this video comes across as promoting unruly behavior publicly, so i apologize and i have taken it down." Even after his apology, the criticism did not stop, with many users mocking him in the comments, one wrote, "Jab influencers hi aisa hain followers ki baat toh bhul hi jao."
